Docs/Getting Started/Installation — Android

Installation — Android

SwiftDrop for Android supports phones and tablets running Android 8.0 (Oreo) or newer.

From Google Play

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your device.
  2. Search for SwiftDrop by Zashiron.
  3. Tap Install.
  4. Open the app and follow the setup wizard.

From APK (sideload)

  1. Visit the download page on your device browser.
  2. Download the latest SwiftDrop-vX.X.X.apk.
  3. Open your Files app and tap the APK to install.
  4. If prompted, enable Install from unknown sources for your browser app.

First-time setup

  1. Accept permissions — SwiftDrop needs local network access to discover nearby devices. Wi-Fi and nearby device permissions are required.
  2. Sign in with your Zashiron account, or create a free account.
  3. Name your device — go to Settings → Device Name and give your phone a recognisable name (e.g. "Sam's Pixel").
  4. SwiftDrop will immediately start scanning for other SwiftDrop devices on the same Wi-Fi network.

Sharing files via Share Sheet

On Android you can send any file to a SwiftDrop device directly from your Files app or any app with a Share button:

  1. Long-press a file → tap Share.
  2. Select SwiftDrop from the share sheet.
  3. Choose a nearby device from the SwiftDrop picker.
  4. Transfer begins immediately.
Tip: For large files (videos, archives), ensure both devices stay on the same network and keep their screens on during the transfer.
